I’m enjoying Anne Lamott’s writerly self-help book Bird by Bird. The experience of reading this is like having her arm draped over your shoulder while she tells you that no, there are no shortcuts, and yes, it is this hard for everyone. She also grants permission to hate everyone who pretends otherwise, so I especially like her.
